James J. Brosnahan

Mr. Brosnahan is a senior partner with the San Francisco office of Morrison & Foerster. He specializes in civil and criminal trial work, and was named to the State Bar of California's "Trial Lawyers Hall of Fame" in 1996. He has argued both civil and criminal appeals in state and federal court, including the United States Supreme Court. He is a past president of the Bar Association of San Francisco and is a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers, the American Board of Trial Advocates, the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, the American Law Institute, and the American Board of Criminal Lawyers. He writes and lectures extensively.

Elizabeth J. Cabraser

Ms. Cabraser is a partner with Lieff Cabraser Heimann & Bernstein in San Francisco. Her areas of practice include consumer protection, personal injury, product defects, and international and human rights. She is a national expert on class action litigation and has written and lectured extensively on that subject. She has received many honors and awards for her work with bar groups and civil organizations and is frequently named on lists of the "top," "best," "super," "leading," or "most influential" lawyers.

 

Victoria J. De Goff

Vicki De Goff is a partner in the civil appellate firm of De Goff and Sherman. She has handled hundreds of appeals throughout the state, and has written and lectured extensively on appellate matters emphasizing effective advocacy. She is a former president of the California Academy of Appellate Lawyers and the Edward J. McFetridge America Inn of Court in San Francisco. She has also long been a member of the highly selective American Academy of Appellate Lawyers. Over the years, three Chief Justices of California have appointed Vicki to important appellate-related committees including the Advisory Committee to the Supreme Court on Publication of Court of Appeal Opinions (2005-2006), the Appellate Indigent Defense Oversight Advisory Committee (1995-2007) and the Advisory Committee to the Judicial Council regarding the Implementation of Proposition 32 (1984). Vicki has served on the Advisory Board to the Witkin Legal Institute since its inception in 1996 and in that capacity has run the statewide Roger J. Traynor California Appellate Advocacy Moot Court Competition for the last decade. Vicki is also currently a member of the Advisory Council for the Thelton J. Henderson Center for Social Justice and an officer of the Center for Youth Development Through Law at Boalt Hall.

Vicki received her J.D. from the University of California Berkeley, School of Law in 1972, Order of the Coif.

Florentino Garza

Mr. Garza is a partner in the firm of Garza, Garza & Pacheco, of San Bernardino, California. His areas of practice include civil rights, civil appeals, personal injury, and environmental law. He is a fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers and the American Academy of Trial Lawyers. He is listed in the Best Lawyers in America. He was named the California Trial Lawyer of the Year in 2000 by the American Board of Trial Advocates.

 

Seth M. Hufstedler

Mr. Hufstedler, senior of counsel at the Los Angeles office of Morrison & Foerster, has specialized in business, trial, and appellate practice for over 40 years. He has represented a broad range of clients in complex business disputes in various state and federal courts, and he has argued numerous matters before California appellate courts, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Hufstedler has served as President of the American Bar Foundation, the State Bar of California, and the Los Angeles County Bar Association. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers.

 

George F. Martin

Mr. Martin is the Managing General Partner of Borton, Petrini & Conron and the Managing Partner of the firm's Bakersfield Office. He specializes in business and insurance litigation. Mr. Martin has served on the boards of directors for many professional organizations, including the Association for California Tort Reform, the California Defense Counsel Association, and the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel. He has recently finished a two-year term as Dean of California Pacific School of Law and is the Chairman Elect of the Board of Directors of the California State University, Bakersfield Foundation.

 

Howard B. Wiener

Justice Howard Wiener (Ret.) is a former Associate Justice of the California Court of Appeal, Fourth Appellate District. He was appointed in 1978 by Governor Edmund G. Brown, Jr., and retired from the bench in December 1993. He entered private practice in 1956, and served on the Superior Court in San Bernardino County from 1975 to 1978. Justice Wiener is a member of the California Judges Association, the American Bar Association, and the Board of Visitors of the University of San Diego School of Law. He is co-author (with Jon B. Eisenberg and Ellis J. Horvitz) of The Rutter Group's California Practice Guide: Civil Appeals and Writs.

 

Arleigh M. Woods

Justice Woods served on the Court of Appeal for the Second Appellate District from 1980 to 1995, and on the Superior Court in Los Angeles from 1976 to 1980. From 1954 to 1976, she was in private practice in Los Angeles, specializing in labor law, workers’ compensation and consumer law. Justice Woods was a member of the California Commission on Judicial Performance from 1986 to 1993, serving as chairwoman of the commission from 1988 to 1993. Among many other honors, she was named "Appellate Justice of the Year" in 1983 by the California Trial Lawyers Association and in 1989 by the Los Angeles Trial Lawyers Association.
